Georgia Avenue Update

FOR THE INFORMED SHOPPER

A lot of heavy lifting has occurred on Georgia Avenue this summer.  The big buzz is the completion of The Factory with an interesting slate of tenants lined up for the upcoming Season.  It takes its name from the building’s original lumber mill use.  Two mementos remain: a beautiful wooden ceiling structure exposed throughout the building and a thoroughly restored silo outside originally used to recycle saw dust produced in the mill. It now stands as a large industrial sculpture proudly repurposed.

The Factory is an expansive building, but the new tenants have taken large spaces.  Besides a restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating at the north end of the building, there’s a coffee bar on the south side. The other tenants include a Porche Museum (yes, that’s correct), Stella Art Conservation and two, to-the-trade, showrooms: Scalamandre and Kravet. And there is plenty of off-street parking for all.

Show Pony now has a workshop on the Avenue that produces commissioned, shell motif pieces.  Remarkable pieces, works of art really.

Kofski’s, long established on the Avenue, is expanding with two shops on Antique Row, one will house sculpture and art and the other upcoming auctions. Kofski’s first seasonal weekend sale on Georgia will be November 8, 9 and 10. More on Georgia Avenue to come.
