FOR THE INFORMED SHOPPER
Well, it’s finally happened. The shopping district on South Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach’s SOSO neighborhood (South of Southern Boulevard) has formed an association to market and promote its unique retail community. It encompasses S. Dixie to Georgia Avenue on the west and Southern Boulevard to the Lake Worth causeway on the south. For the first time this unique shopping community will have a voice. The district compliments its more established neighbor, Antique Row, to the north with a wide selection of establishments offering home furnishings, clothing, entertainment, self-improvement and dining.
A recent article in the Palm Beach Post noted that the SOSO Design District is “local, independent and rooted in the neighborhood” and that it has “grown naturally.” That is absolutely true. I’ve seen the district change slowly, painfully slowly, for the better. I lived on S. Flagler for 15 years starting in 2003. I saw the opportunity for development, but the time was not right. But now it’s happening and to the benefit of all of us, whether the informed shopper, casual looker or designer working with a client.
West Palm Beach has become a noteworthy shopping destination!
