FOR THE INFORMED SHOPPER
Antique Row’s Holiday Stroll was a casual affair with perfect weather and a friendly crowd. The next upcoming event for the street is A Market Event on the Row, Saturday, February 28th from 9 am to 4 pm, billed as a shopping extravaganza. Stay tuned for further updates. If you haven’t found just the right gift on-line or at the mall, try the unique choices to select from on Antique Row.
A new face on the Row is Ed Segal whose shop TRUSTED specializes in fine jewelry and objects of art. He is a well-respected jeweler and goldsmith from New York who arrives with high accolades. See what he has to offer.
Palm Bungalow under the creative ownership of Ryan Lewis is a showroom of truly exceptional floral arrangements. The customer can choose from a wide selection of artificial planting material or bring in their own plants. But the showstopper here is Palm Bungalow’s selection of containers: stone, quartz, agate, wood, ceramic. Many are works of art themselves. Some beautiful enough to display solely on their own merits.
Meanwhile across the street John Prinster continues to curate a fine collection of Art Deco and Moderne furniture and decorative arts. He has been on the street since 1985 and is your go-to person for knowledge and direction in this area of design.
It’s curious that at this busy holiday shopping season several stores on Antique Row seem to be closed or perhaps are open only by appointment. This works for design studios and workshops, but it hardly seems plausible for shops selling merchandize. More investigation on my part is necessary here. But not to undermine the Row’s exciting momentum going forward, I am always impressed when on the street with the wide diversity, selection and the personal commitment these shops and their owners represent. What a lucky shopper’s mecca whether you’re looking for something specific or just allowing the eye to travel.
